ME BEFORE YOU
Not all love stories are ‘beautiful’. Not every love story
begins at the first sight. And not every story gets its happy ending.
Every story doesn’t commence in a palatial milieu or with
bells chiming or flowers showering over heads. Some take place under stormy
arbours with a hurricane waiting outside, just to gobble up everything you
have.
Sometimes doing things just for the sake of your lover’s comfort and happiness becomes as paramount as your love for them, even if it kills you. Two people who shouldn’t have met, and who didn’t like each other much when they did, but who found they were the only two people in the world who could possibly have understood each other.
Me Before You, a romantic novel by Jojo
Moyes, is a story of an awkward, average middle-class girl desperately looking
for a job. She lands up working as a caretaker of a cranky, quadriplegic man.
Spasmodic hard kicks by life tell us that we are not really in
control of the reins of our own lives. It’s hardly our prerogative to plan it!
Lou never planned to lose her job. Will had never planned to become
a quadriplegic. Both of them hadn’t planned to meet their ‘life’.
Story of Will and Lou is the best possible specimen of the
verisimilitude of what life is. You never know what might happen next!
It’s pretty lucid that the most important stance that the
novel takes up is to embrace life in its entirety, appreciating even its
entropy.
Will never in his wildest dreams would have thought that he
would fall in love with someone like Lou, who was weird, fat, and staunchly
opposite to him. Neither had Lou.
Life, still brought them together. Both were in dire need of
each other. They both needed someone who could who shake them to wits and tell
them that how they dealt with life was not how it was to be done. Both told
each other that life is beautiful, in which ever way it was.
Love is not something
that needs a silver or golden jubilee… Lou and Will lived all their life in
just six months which they couldn’t in twenty-seven years! Living without your
partner is not easy: I was afraid of
living without him. I wanted to give him every bit of life I felt and forced
him to live. How is it you have the right to destroy my life, I wanted to
demand of him but I’m not allowed a say in yours?
So, though, we don’t
have a choice in choosing the happenings in our life, but we surely do have a
choice in our reaction towards it. Better be it a cheerful one!!!
Accept all that life has to give you with open arms. Never
underestimate yourself. Whatever happens in life, always does for a reason, so
just leave everything to fate and enjoy the ride. I assure you it is beautiful
one!
